Days of sitting on the front porch talking with neighbors seem long gone. Voter participation rates continue to decline. Elections seem increasingly bitter while more candidates are running unopposed. Two working parents make meaningful participation in many school events a challenge. Recreational sports leagues suffer due to lack of volunteer coaches and officials. Neighbors do not know each other and we are more segregated than we care to admit.
Erie has strong history of engaged civic leadership and citizen volunteerism. Yet many are feeling an increased void in the area of civic leadership. We are often left wondering, who’s in charge?
