Cultural Vitality Overview
Erie’s array of cultural amenities is surprising for a community our size. Our cultural and sporting venues are impressive. College and university programming enriches students and adults alike. Our Zoo and the Flagship Niagara are unique. Our Art Museum, Philharmonic and Playhouse are all approaching 100 year anniversaries.
These, and many smaller arts and culture organizations, help define us as a region. Our schools, hospitals and industries use them as a recruitment tool. They bring an increasing numbers of tourists to our community. In aggregate, they are a significant economic force. Individually, even our strongest organizations remain quite fragile. And while our summers are filled with festivals, our schools are devoid of arts and cultural experiences.
