Environment Overview
Ask an Erie resident what makes our community special and they will often say Presque Isle, Lake Erie, our streams, or our four seasons of outdoor activities. Interest in skiing, hunting, fishing, biking and other outdoor activities remains high. Presque Isle remains an ecological gem that is loved, and used, by thousands.
While significant governmental investments have cleaned our Bay, uncoordinated governmental planning leads to sprawl, unneeded flooding and controversies over water and sewer rates. Public access to our tributaries is limited. Zoning is not coordinated. Our county lags behind many in Pennsylvania for LEED Certified buildings.
