Regionalism Overview
Pennsylvania is a complicated Commonwealth with a multitude of governments at all levels. Our legislature is among the nations costliest and largest. While individual mayors, supervisors, clerks, planners and authorities are all doing tremendous work, many believe this system of functional fragmentation creates inefficiencies that put our state, and region, at a competitive disadvantage.
Consultants after consultant have visited our region. Bosworth and Citistates are among those who have advocated for an increased regionalism as a strategy to deal with some of our local challenges. Across the nation, there are communities that have found ways to prosper through functional consolidation.
