Crimes, or offenses as defined by the commonwealth, are broken down into several broad categories. One substantial issue needing addressed is offenses actually committed versus offenses reported. To ensure the highest quality data analysis, only actual offenses committed were analyzed. Additionally, the safety of the region is not solely based on the number of offenses committed, but also on how many of those offenses result in arrests.
Erie County has averaged approximately 49% of all offenses committed resulting in an arrest. This number has steadily declined over the past 4 years. This is a downward trend that needs to be reversed.
